About 20 miles west of Bend, OR, on the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway, there are great boondocking spots to be found around the Sparks Lake Day Use Area, which will accomodate smaller rigs and trailers. Don’t let the “Day Use” signage mislead you; Camping is allowed here. The road leading up to the recreation area is good, with few potholes, and the scenery is gorgeous to say the least. There is a lot of paddleboarding, canoeing and other non motorized watercraft activity going on at the lake. During the weekend the area was very busy but weekdays were quiet and peaceful. Cell and WiFi with Verizon was excellent. As a boondocking spot the Sparks Lake Recreation Area is one to cone back to, and scores high on the list of all time favorites, but on we go, Scouting Destinations.
