Just north of Carlsbad, NM at Lake Carlsbad some great boondocking spots can be found with great views over the lake. Cell service is excellent. This area is being used for target practice given the many empty shells and spent cartridges we saw all over the place. Roads are gravel but there are also some trails. All in all a nice place to hang out for a few days, close to the town of Carlsbad with its grocery stores and free RV dump at the end of E Plaza Street just across from the railroad tracks at the recycling center. The Avalon Lake Campsite is located at the end of 602 off the George Shoup Relief Route.
