San Isabel National Forest between Salida/Poncha Springs and Buena Vista, CO

There are many places to camp in this National Forest. We have found one area that we just can’t stop visiting. This area sits at the base of Mt. Antero. There are several different areas in this section of the forest. We have stayed in 4 different parts of this forest and every one of them have been enjoyable. Off US Hwy 285 N between Poncha Springs and Nathrop, CO is Forest Rd. 270. Follow the dirt road and continue straight until you cross the cattle guard and now you are in San Isabel National Forest . At the information board you can turn left on 272 for some great forest sites or go straight and find forest, meadow sites. Like all National Forests you can stay for 14 days and pack all trash out. We found great phone and internet service in all locations.
